Create and organize matters

Use matters as the home for clients, work, billing, and communication.

Create a matter

Open Matters, choose Create new, and enter a display number, matter name, practice area, status, and responsible attorney. Link the client contact before billing or portal access is needed.

Keep the record useful

Matter notes, activities, tasks, bills, and client messages all work best when the matter is named consistently and assigned to the right team members.

Common fixes

  • If a client cannot see a matter, check the matter clients page and invite status.
  • If billing totals look wrong, review activities and bill status.
  • If a matter should be private, change its permission type and assign specific users or groups.
